East

This a great big pie piece of North Carolina, from Falls Lake reservoir and Wake Forest nearby all the way to the Outer Banks. Of course this takes in a lot of magnificent landscape - Albemarle and Pamlico Sounds, treasures like Kill Devil Hills, Cape Hatteras light, Ocracoke Island, Lake Matamuskeet.  My most recent trip in 1998 was a visit to Rock Cliff Farm. It was as close as I could ever get to Walden Pond. I was totally alone there and the silence was eerie and at one point I thought I heard a woman's voice wafting across the lake.  I sped up my pace back down S.R. 1919 to the gate.

It may not be worth an 80 mile drive for our hiking group to hike it.

We explore this Medoc State Park.  Linda read about it in "60 Hikes within 60 Miles of the Triangle".
